2026 QuickBooks price increases, QBO, Payroll, and Bill Pay (one guide)
Page description: A lighthearted, plain-English roundup of 2026 QuickBooks price changes for QuickBooks Online, QuickBooks Workforce (formerly QBO Payroll), and QuickBooks Bill Pay, plus what to tell clients.
QuickBooks pricing updates have arrived for 2026. If your clients are already side-eyeing their subscriptions, this is your one-stop cheat sheet.
This post consolidates the official updates for:
- QuickBooks Online (QBO)
- QuickBooks Workforce (formerly QuickBooks Online Payroll)
- QuickBooks Bill Pay
The three dates to know (so you can look calm)
- July 1, 2026: QuickBooks Workforce and QuickBooks Time per-employee pricing updates take effect.
- Summer 2026: QuickBooks Bill Pay pricing updates take effect (see details below).
- August 1, 2026: QBO Essentials, Plus, and Advanced pricing updates begin showing up on the next billing date.
QuickBooks Online pricing changes (effective August 2026)
What is changing
Intuit’s update applies to:
- QuickBooks Online Essentials
- QuickBooks Online Plus
- QuickBooks Online Advanced
What is not changing
Intuit notes there are no pricing changes at this time for:
- QuickBooks Online Simple Start
- QuickBooks Ledger
When it hits the bill
- Beginning August 1, 2026, updated pricing for both client-billed and accountant-billed Essentials, Plus, and Advanced will appear on the subscription’s next billing date.
- Pricing shown publicly on the QuickBooks website updates August 3, 2026.
New clients and promos
- New QBO clients receive 6 months of price protection before the new rate applies.
- Promotional discounts continue through the full promo period, then renew at the updated price.
Quick note, QBO Advanced + Construction add-on
If you have clients on QBO Advanced, there is also a Construction add-on option that can be $75/month for 12 months. If a client’s bill jumps and they swear they didn’t change anything, this is one of the first places I’d look.
QuickBooks Workforce (Payroll) pricing changes (effective July 2026)
QuickBooks Online Payroll is now branded as QuickBooks Workforce, aiming to bring payroll, time tracking, and HR tools into one connected experience.
What is changing
- The base subscription price is not changing.
- Intuit is updating per-employee pricing for QuickBooks Workforce plans.
When it hits the bill
The new pricing takes effect July 1, 2026 for new, client-billed, and accountant-billed QuickBooks Workforce Payroll, Premium, and Elite subscriptions.
New clients and promos
- New Workforce clients receive 6 months of price protection.
- Promotional discounts continue through the full promo period, then renew at the new price.
QuickBooks Time pricing changes (also effective July 2026)
If your client uses QuickBooks Time outside of a Workforce subscription, there is a separate per-employee increase.
- For QuickBooks Time Premium and Elite, the price increases by $2.00 per employee per month.
- The QuickBooks Time base subscription price does not change.
- Note: QuickBooks Time is included with Workforce Premium and Elite. The per-employee per-month fee above applies when Time is used with QuickBooks Online or as a standalone product, not as part of a Workforce subscription.
QuickBooks Bill Pay pricing changes (effective summer 2026)
Bill Pay has its own set of updates this summer. Intuit calls out three Bill Pay pricing updates taking effect.
One important operational note for firms: Bill Pay Elite will be included in QuickBooks Online Advanced at no additional cost in August. That means some clients who were paying for a standalone Bill Pay subscription may no longer need it if they are on Advanced.
If you have clients on Simple Start, Essentials, or Plus using standalone Bill Pay, Intuit notes you can split subscription fees and transaction fees between the firm and the client (helpful when you want to keep the QBO subscription firm-billed but leave transaction fees client-billed).
What to tell clients (copy you can steal)
Short version
“QuickBooks is adjusting pricing this summer. Workforce (payroll) updates start July 1, and QuickBooks Online updates start showing up on billing cycles beginning August 1. Bill Pay also has summer pricing updates. If you are a newer subscriber, you may have a six-month price protection period. If you are on promotional pricing, your discount stays in place through the promo, then renews at the updated rate.”
The calm, practical next step
“If you want, we can review which plan you are on, how many employees you are paying for, and whether any add-ons are driving the real cost. Then we’ll make sure you are on the right tier for what you actually use.”
Quick notes for accountants (so you do not get blindsided)
- The exact date a client sees the change can vary by billing date.
- If you manage a mix of client-billed and accountant-billed subscriptions, expect questions, and consider sending a proactive heads-up email.
- If a client is sensitive to price changes, the fastest win is usually confirming:
- plan tier (Essentials vs Plus vs Advanced)
- number of employees on payroll/time
- whether Bill Pay is embedded in Advanced or still standalone
- whether an add-on (like Construction) is on the subscription
